The Experience

Hawaiʻi is famous for its sunsets, and the south shore of Oʻahu delivers some of the most spectacular ones on the islands — a wide open horizon with the Pacific stretching west as far as the eye can see, the sky fading through shades of gold, orange, and pink as Diamond Head turns a deep volcanic silhouette. The Waikīkī Sunset Cruise is a 1.5-hour shared coastal cruise aboard the "Big Kahuna," departing from Kewalo Basin Harbor around 5:00–6:00 PM depending on the season. The route takes you along the full Waikīkī shoreline — past the beach, the hotels, Diamond Head viewpoint — before heading offshore to catch the sun dropping into the horizon. This is a deliberately relaxed experience. No snorkeling, no adventure — just the ocean, the sunset, and Oʻahu's iconic coastline. The crew points out notable landmarks along the way and keeps an eye out for marine wildlife. Sea turtles and dolphins are regular sightings on this route. From December through April, humpback whales pass through these same waters. Soft drinks are included. BYOB is welcome — bring a cold drink and watch the sky change colour from the open deck. It's affordable, easy, and genuinely beautiful.
