The Experience
Every Friday night since 1988, Waikīkī has lit up the sky with fireworks launched from a barge just offshore of Hilton Hawaiian Village. From the beach it's a popular spectacle — from the ocean, it's something else entirely. The Waikīkī Fireworks Cruise departs from Kewalo Basin Harbor around 7:05–7:20 PM, cruising along the illuminated Waikīkī coastline as the city lights come alive. Diamond Head looms in the background, the Honolulu skyline glows, and the water reflects everything back at you. The boat positions for the best offshore viewing angle before the show begins. The fireworks last approximately 3–5 minutes — short, but spectacular from the water. Because you're offshore and looking in rather than standing on a crowded beach looking out, you get an unobstructed view with the full Waikīkī skyline as a backdrop. After the show, the cruise returns under the glowing Honolulu night sky. Soft drinks are provided. BYOB is welcome — bring a cold drink and something to snack on. The Big Kahuna has a marine restroom and comfortable open-air seating designed for watching the show. It's the most affordable and accessible way to experience one of Waikīkī's most beloved weekly traditions.
