The Experience
Maui was once the pineapple capital of the world. At its peak, the island produced more pineapples than anywhere else on Earth — fields blanketing the slopes of Haleakalā from sea level to the highlands. Today, only one working pineapple farm remains on Maui. This tour takes you inside it. Located in Hāliʻimaile in the heart of Upcountry Maui, the Maui Pineapple Tour gives guests a rare and genuine look at how Maui Gold Pineapples — one of the sweetest, lowest-acid pineapple varieties in the world — are grown from crown to harvest. After checking in at the Maui Pineapple Store, your group boards a tour vehicle and heads out into the fields with a knowledgeable guide who walks you through the full growing cycle: how pineapple plants take 18 to 24 months to produce a single fruit, how the fields are managed through Maui's distinct microclimates, and how the harvesting and packing process brings the fruit from field to table. This is Upcountry Maui at its most authentic — cool air, red volcanic soil, sweeping mountain views, and the kind of agricultural heritage that shaped this island long before the first resort was ever built. The tour includes a walk through parts of the farming operation and packing area, with stops at key points in the field for photos and closer looks at the plants at different stages of growth. At the end of every tour, every guest receives a complimentary Maui Gold Pineapple — already cleaned, packaged, and cleared for transport through Hawaiʻi's agricultural inspection process. You can take it straight to the airport and bring the taste of Maui home with you.
