Bike, Gear & Shuttle to Launch Point
The Experience
This one is for the bikers. No predawn alarm. No summit visit. No National Park admission. Just you, a KONA® mountain bike with hydraulic disc brakes, and 23 miles of Maui's most scenic downhill terrain — at the lowest price Bike Maui offers. You check in at 9:45 AM at Bike Maui's Haʻikū headquarters, where the team fits you with your bike, DAKINE® backpack, Helly Hansen® rain gear, and Bell® helmet, and walks you through the route. Then a shuttle takes your group to the launch point at approximately 6,500 feet elevation — just outside Haleakalā National Park — and the ride begins. From here the route descends through some of the most beautiful countryside in all of Maui. You'll wind through the legendary "Fabulous 29" switchbacks on Haleakalā Ranch, passing sweeping views of Maui's central valley and coastline on nearly every turn. Because the format is entirely self-guided, you set the pace — stop for a coffee or lunch in Makawao's cowboy town, wander through Ha'ikū's lush back roads, or just enjoy the sensation of rolling downhill through Olinda's eucalyptus forests and ranch lands with nowhere you have to be. This is the ideal option for repeat Maui visitors who've already done the summit, budget-conscious travelers who want the downhill experience without the extras, or anyone who just wants to get on a bike and ride.
