The Experience

The Fun in the Sun Sail aboard the Makani Catamaran takes you on a relaxing 2-hour daytime cruise along the south shore — a front-row seat to Diamond Head's volcanic silhouette, the Waikīkī skyline, and the distant Koʻolau Mountains framing the horizon. This isn't a high-energy adventure tour — it's the ocean day you've been dreaming about. The Makani is a large, modern catamaran with plenty of open deck space, shaded cabin seating, and sunbathing nets stretched out over the bow where you can lie back and feel the ocean beneath you. The pace is unhurried, the ride is smooth, and the scenery does all the work. Typically departing at 11:00 AM or 2:00 PM, this is an ideal alternative to sunset cruises if you prefer bright blue skies and the full warmth of the Hawaiian sun. The full bar is available for drinks throughout the sail, and the onboard sound system keeps the vibe lively but laid-back. Keep your eyes on the water — Hawaiian green sea turtles and spinner dolphins are frequently spotted along this stretch of coastline, and during winter months humpback whales migrate through these waters. Wildlife sightings aren't guaranteed, but they're a genuine and regular highlight of this route. Optional hotel transportation is available for an additional $15 per person, departing from the Waikīkī area. The catamaran departs from Kewalo Basin Harbor, just minutes from Waikīkī.
